Valerie Robitaille is an entrepreneur who always had a passion for the ocean. This passion led to an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology from Maine Maritime Academy in the United States. After studying in the US, she returned to Quebec City to pursue graduate studies in geoengineering at the National Institute of Scientific Research.
It was during those years that she discovered her interest for technology in the fields of optics and photonics. With her husband Cody Andrews, an engineer whom she met at Maine Maritime, they started thinking about commercial applications for optics and photonics in marine environments. Soon thereafter they received interest from several aquaculture companies and they decided to create XpertSea to address the major technology gap that exists in the aquaculture industry.
XpertSea is now a company that employs more than 35 people and sells technology solutions to aquaculture companies in over 20 countries.
